Lloyd Elsmore Skatepark

East Skate Club played a key role in advocating for and helping shape the redevelopment of Lloyd Elsmore Skatepark in Pakuranga. After years of engagement with riders, the local community, Auckland Council and the Howick Local Board, the ageing skatepark was transformed into a modern wheeled-sports facility designed for skateboarding, BMX, scooters and rollerblading.

East Skate Club contributed throughout the journey, from early advocacy and community consultation through to design input and supporting the project through delivery. The renewed park provides a safer, more progressive and inclusive space for riders of different ages and abilities, while creating a long-term community hub for wheeled sports in East Auckland.

East Skate Club continues operating SonSk8 Indoor Skatepark and delivering community skate activities to improve access to wheeled recreation. Our work combined indoor recreation, coaching, free programmes, disability-inclusive sessions, community outreach and advocacy for improved public skate facilities

In 2024 alone:

We delivered over 2,000 hours of supervised skating time
Taught more than 1,500 tamariki through lessons and school visits
Partnered with local boards and national funders to increase skate access
Supported disabled and neurodivergent skaters through adapted coaching
Gave a platform to girls, young wāhine, and gender-diverse skaters
Advocated for safer public skateparks, better lighting, and long-term investment in skate facilities

Our Services

Community Consultation

We aim to connect parents, local youth, along with skilled and experienced scooter riders, BMX, skateboarders, inline and rollerskaters to share their views, opinions, wants, and needs to ensure the absolute best outcome with the budget.
We have completed the community consultation for several skatepark renewals across Auckland as well as a few on the go we are working towards too.
