    Highland Park DIY Skate Space

    established a temporary community skate space using ramps previously removed from Lloyd Elsmore Park. The space gave local young people somewhere to ride, meet friends and stay connected while East Skate Club pursued longer-term facilities.

    Te Pai Skatepark Improvements, Henderson

    joined local skaters in approaching Henderson-Massey Local Board about deteriorating surfaces and the need for improvements. This advocacy helped inform a $20,000 repair programme announced in December 2022, covering cracks, joints and concrete smoothing.

    Working with Fresh Concept as part of Eke Panuku’s waterfront project, East Skate Club helped design, fabricate and install movable skate obstacles. The club also rearranged the obstacles, connected riders with the space and supported its use through skate competitions

Our Why

Because Aotearoa needs more than fields and courts.

East Skate Club continues operating SonSk8 Indoor Skatepark and delivering community skate activities to improve access to wheeled recreation. Our work combined indoor recreation, coaching, free programmes, disability-inclusive sessions, community outreach and advocacy for improved public skate facilities

Lloyd Elsmore Skatepark

East Skate Club played a key role in advocating for and helping shape the redevelopment of Lloyd Elsmore Skatepark in Pakuranga. After years of engagement with riders, the local community, Auckland Council and the Howick Local Board, the ageing skatepark was transformed into a modern wheeled-sports facility designed for skateboarding, BMX, scooters and rollerblading.

East Skate Club contributed throughout the journey, from early advocacy and community consultation through to design input and supporting the project through delivery. The renewed park provides a safer, more progressive and inclusive space for riders of different ages and abilities, while creating a long-term community hub for wheeled sports in East Auckland.

Panmure Skatepark

East Skate Club helped drive the renewal of Panmure Skatepark, from raising concerns about its condition to gathering community feedback and contributing to the design. Working alongside Eke Panuku, Auckland Council and Weerdvan Skatepark Solutions, we helped ensure local riders’ experiences shaped practical improvements.

Completed in 2023, the upgrade included smoother surfaces, rebuilt stairs and ledges, improved flow and a new quarterpipe—making better use of the space and creating more opportunities for progression.

Our support continued during the wider reserve works in 2025, partnering with Auckland Council to offer limited free sessions at SonSk8 when access was disrupted. Panmure reflects our commitment to bringing riders and decision-makers together to create better community skateparks.

Impact

In 2024 alone:

  • We delivered over 2,000 hours of supervised skating time

  • Taught more than 1,500 tamariki through lessons and school visits

  • Partnered with local boards and national funders to increase skate access

  • Supported disabled and neurodivergent skaters through adapted coaching

  • Gave a platform to girls, young wāhine, and gender-diverse skaters

  • Advocated for safer public skateparks, better lighting, and long-term investment in skate facilities

Our Services

    Community Consultation

    We aim to connect parents, local youth, along with skilled and experienced scooter riders, BMX, skateboarders, inline and rollerskaters to share their views, opinions, wants, and needs to ensure the absolute best outcome with the budget.
    We have completed the community consultation for several skatepark renewals across Auckland as well as a few on the go we are working towards too.
